Graft estimation process

"Before a hair transplant surgery begins, the doctor will measure and analyse the balding area aiming for the best result for each client."

The process can start with an initial evaluation where the client sends pictures of their concerned area to the clinic via online platforms. With these pictures, the clinic will be able to provide a rough estimate and price for the client’s further consideration. However, these numbers can be inaccurate because it is only a rough estimate from the pictures.

It, of course, would be better if the client can visit the clinic for an accurate measurement. The doctor will be able to discuss and draw the area before she calculates the total number of hair follicles needed for the surgery. This step is quite a crucial step because the result relies on the doctor’s drawing. She has to make sure that the client has understood the graft management plan and is satisfied with the drawn area to prevent any misunderstanding in the future.

After the drawing, we will now know the size of the recipient area, the number of hair grafts required, and the doctor will be able to check if the client has enough donors for an upcoming procedure or not. Depending on the baldness severity, the doctor will select an appropriate hair density for the recipient area. Normally, the standard hair density for hair transplant is around 40-50 hair grafts per sq. cm. (on a completely bald area). If the recipient area already has some preexisting hair, the hair graft density for a hair transplant can be lower.

The number of follicular units should not be too little or too much. If the transplanted hair is too dense, the survival rate of hair graft can decrease. If the transplanted hair is too sparse, the end result will be thin and unnatural.
